Timeline
For more than 45 years, we’ve been protecting individuals, families,
and businesses here in New England.
We are dedicated to providing Intercity Alarm customers with the
latest in security innovation and technology and the highest
standards of customer service in the region.
September 1972
Founder Douglas M. Curtiss founds Sonitrol Security Systems of Hartford, a commercial security company based out of Rocky Hill, CT.
We later merge with other local Sonitrol companies to become Sonitrol New England.
1970s – 1980s
Working closely with local police and fire departments, we make huge improvements aimed at reducing false alarms.
The authorities trust our alarm systems and verification process; that’s why when one of our alarms get off, emergency response times are significantly faster compared to many competitors.
1980s – 1990s
Business owners and longtime customers start asking us if they can put Sonitrol systems in their homes as well.
We expand our alarm systems and monitoring services across the state. Now, we’re protecting homeowners, school districts, and small businesses, too.
1990s – 2000s
We expand into other states in New England, acquiring residential alarm companies in Rhode Island (HB Alarm) and Massachusetts (Intercity Alarms).
Our residential security team is later rebranded as Alarm New England.
2015
The Alarm New England team continues to add more offices around Massachusetts, setting up a team in the heart of downtown Boston.
This transition marks our shift towards professional-grade DIY home security systems, smart home automation, flexible installation options, and an end-to-end user experience that people trust.
2017-Present
Alarm New England continues to expand its range of products and services to make our communities safer places to live. We now protect over 27,000 of our fellow New England residents in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
